My grandmother, a Scottish-American, lived almost her entire life in a small rural town in southern Idaho where she met and married my Irish-American grandfather. I visited them every summer, along with my brothers, from the age of 3 months to 13 years. Granny always cautioned us not to “roughhouse” in the dining room out of concern that we might break one of her tea cups sitting on shelves on the wall. When she died at the age of 92, I was given several of her tea cups as a remembrance.
